I love the work of James Huniford principal at Huniford Design Studio in Manhattan. So when I was reading Desire to Inspire and saw a feature on his Hamptons home I was so excited! Filled with interesting and unique pieces, this home is cool, calm and collected. As with most of their interiors an extreme amount of attention is payed to materiality and details and making a house really feel like a home. He has pushed the envelope styling the house with quirky accessories, and between the giant ship chain (image below on right) and the sketches framed and hung on clip boards (fourth image below) there is an incredibly alluring feel to the result. For me one of the most appealing things about this house is that it doesn't feel too designed - a goal that I know most of us designers strive for - and so it is a huge success in my books. What do you think? Like? Love? Hate?

And for those of you who haven't had enough; you can check out Ford Huniford's blog here.
It is definitely really different and I feel like a good designer should always be pushing the envelope but keeping in mind that a house is also a home. He seems like he nails it!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree - so nice to see some out-of-the-box thinking and design!
