Curved Glass

For as long as I can remember I have been captivated by curved glass. There is something about the simplicity of this material in a curved form that is truly beautiful - not to mention impressive.  We took a walk on the Upper East side over the weekend and came across some beautiful installations of curved glass in storefronts which inspired this post.

The Burlington Arcade in London was one of the most beautiful examples of curved glass storefronts, with each store entry being flanked by curved displays.  Unveiled in 1819, it is a stunning covered passageway that we visited many times while living there.

The Glass Pavilion in Toledo, part of the Toledo Museum of Art, has nearly its entire wall structure - both internal and external - built of curved glass making the transition from interior to exterior seamless.
