This week I find myself in East Hampton installing a project that has come about quite quickly. The weather hasn't been great and so things in town have been quite slow except for contractors and design folk like me getting our clients houses ready for the summer season. The project is right on the beach (see image from my tweet) and it has really made me think of the great outdoors and how nice it is to spend time by the water - even if I don't get to benefit from it. One feature of the house that I really like (and something we are putting into a project in Florida I'm working on as well) is an outdoor shower. The idea of standing outside, enjoying nature while pampering yourself really is the ultimate indulgence. I thought that I would share some wonderful outdoor shower images with you that I have been using as inspiration for this other project. Thoughts?

Fall! It is hard to ignore that the seasons are changing. Although the weather seems to be holding out now the colder days have hit Manhattan and so it is only a matter of time until it turns for good. I am worried for what the colder weather will be like this winter, but for now I am putting that out of my head to enjoy the amazing colours of the fall. Since it has been a while since I had an Inspired By post, I thought it would be good to ring in the week with my favourite feelings of fall!

I love these chairs and know that there is nothing particularly autumn-like about them, however I love that they are upholstered in an old Hudson Bay blanket and they just feel so warm and cozy.
Fall and getting into the colder seasons for me has always been about cable knit. I think that it is great that knit no longer only means sweaters - whether lining for hunter boots, or a little texture for your home, it is a comforting and cozy and reminds me of the change in season and wardrobe.
I just loved this selection of yarn. What a stunning Fall Palette this would make - a nice selection of warm neutrals with a little pop of colour.

Silver! Following on from my post Saturday on last months' AD, I got to thinking about finishes and materials that we seem to be seeing quite a bit of recently. It is no coincidence that there are were two articles that caught my eye both featuring this finish in more than one way. I posted a little while ago on the Olympic metals as inspiration and it has got me to noticing a new trend - silver! Whether it is silver leaf applied to the ceiling (see first image below), a deep metallic finish on the walls, or the selection of silvered/grey stone, we are seeing silver all over. How do you feel about this trend? Love or indifferent? Hope you have a great week!

Lanterns! I have been missing London recently - must be the back to work blues after our trips there this summer - and wanted to share with you one of my favourite pieces of lighting done best by the British. In the time I spent working in the UK, I did a lot of research and sourcing of lanterns for use on our projects. This hasn't stopped since working here in New York, and in fact, I seem to be using them on all my projects lately. I am a fan of simplicity rather than all the extra details that one can find and tend to air on the side of over-scaled for ceiling fixtures as to me it gives a sense of presence in the space. Lanterns also make me think of fall with their warm glow - especially when there are candles inside - and as today feels like the turning of the seasons here I thought it only fitting. Hope you have a wonderful Monday and here is to another week!

Labour Day! I am loving having a three day weekend...how can we make this happen once a month? Work at the moment has been very busy and I am off to LA again tomorrow to start another installation. I have always found Labour Day a funny holiday, as it never really meant anything to me. It was always more about having the day before school started then being thankful to workers unions, however as this has been a busy year I am thankful for the extra day off and time to reflect. I thought that this would be a good opportunity to share some of the interior workspaces that I love with all of you as a little tribute to the places in which we work. If we have to go to work and be at a desk each day why not have a nice space to go to?

the Olympics! Well, Olympic fever has been and gone and I have to say that I miss it! the Paralympics start in a couple of days and so there is another chance for a little more heathy athletic competition. I feel that with our trip to London, and the opportunity that we had to attend some Olympic events, we made the most of it and really got into the Olympic spirit. How about you? It was be great to be back in London (see posts on eating and drinking) seeing as we had not been back since moving away over a year ago. I really feel that the metals of the Olympics are amazing in any interior, and whether home accessories, furniture or interior details all three make perfect additions to any interior and help us all feel a little more decorated. In honour of this wonderful sporting event and our upcoming trip I have been inspired by all things Gold, Silver and Bronze!

Shipping containers! I was watching the closing ceremonies of the Olympics last night and it brought back memories of my time in London and our visit to the Olympics (stay tuned for a post - promise it is coming soon). One of the things that I loved most about these Olympics is London's push for a 'Green Games'. With many of their venues being either temporary or reducible in size following the games, it was really great to see that there has been real thought put unto the sustainability of these facilities once the games were over. Even the BBC commentary studios (pictured above) were made of shipping containers which can be dismounted once no longer needed. There has been a great push over the past few years to repurpose shipping containers and turn them into housing, retail or commercial spaces. I have put together a collection below of my favorites from a small weekend getaway (blue container below), to the Freitag tower in Zurich or the Camp Cinco structures (brown structures below) it really is incredibly inspiring what we can create and how the boundaries can be pushed with such a simple structure. Happy Monday all, Enjoy!
